Y-Press . . .

• was a nonprofit youth-media organization (501 c 3) that stressed youth development and leadership skills. It is located in downtown Indianapolis, in The Indianapolis Star building.
• began as a Children’s Express bureau in 1990. In November 1999, renamed Y-Press, it became an independent news bureau with operations continuing at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. In 2004, Y-Press left the museum and became an independent nonprofit organization, which it remains today.
  
• was a youth-driven organization that gave children a voice in the world. Members built communication skills by producing stories with a youth perspective.
• produced column that appears in The Indianapolis Star every other week on Thursdays in Local Living. In addition, radio pieces aired on WFYI-FM (90.1). Stories and other media are researched, reported and written by reporters (ages 10-13) and editors (ages 14-18) for audiences of all ages.
• had a website that was updated regularly and encouraged external submissions and comments about youth-written stories and reviews. The print stories could also be accessed from The Star’s website and radio stories from WFYI-FM (90.1) website.
